MISSIONARY POLITICS BEHIND A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) is under construction at Koodankulam in Tamil Nadu. Agreement was signed between Rajiv Gandhi government and Russia in 1986 (then soviet union) for the construction of two nuclear reactors. It was not executed due to objections from USA that it did not meet terms of Nuclear Suppliers Group(NSG). Construction began in 1997. Almost 90% of the work has been completed with huge investment of billions of dollars. A port was also built at koodankulam to bring the reactors from Russia.
With rapid progress of Tamil Nadu in specific and India in general people badly need electricity for household as well as industries. TamilNadu which was once a power surplus state is now power deficit state. Everything may seem normal about the nuclear plant with environmentalists opposing and general public and industries supporting. But if you dig little deeper into it you will be shocked to see the politics driving these environmentalists.
A small group was opposing this from the beginning but once India entered into agreement with Nuclear Suppliers Group international politics started to play here. Japan’s Fukushima nuclear disaster gave shot in the arm for these opposing people to come on roads. They rallied the villagers around that site and started dharna. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister J Jayalalitha assured the people but to vain.
People may think what is wrong in people’s protest there but here the real politics lies.
The natural reasons why people shouldnot protest are
1. We cannot compare koodankulam with Fukushima because India is no Japan, and also koodankulam is located in safe area as far as earthquakes are concerned.
2. It is located at a higher altitude, whereas Fukushima was in beachfront. So the chances of Tsunami are nill.
3. The plants in the koodankulam have double contaminent system which can withstand high pressure.
4. Already 14000 crores have been spent and 90 of the work is complete. So to stall the project at this point is disastarous for our economy and also for nation’s selfreliance in nuclear power.
Why this sudden interest from NGO’s in opposing the nuclear plant?
Is it concern about environment or is there something else?
The answer to these questions is, No, they are not concerned about environment because only christian missionaries are opposing this plant. Are Hindus least concerned about environment? No they are also concerned about environment after all this is their motherland also.
Then what this fuss is all about? The main thing is the foreign powers especially USA does not want to see India as a nuclear power which can threaten its hold internationally.
The main points you should know are
1. Why only christian missionaries are opposing this plant?
2. All the hindu organisations are supporting this plant.
3. The NGO’s are receiving money from foreign donors not in the name of agitation but in the name of conversion to christianity. They are diverting that money to this agitation.
4. If they are concerned about environment why should they receive money from abroad?
You should also know one thing, the christian missionaries are opposing for almost two decades the uranimum mining in West Kashi hills in Meghalaya.
Is there a common connection running between these two?
Yes, the agitation in West Kashi hills in Meghalaya prevents building of nuclear arsenal for india and Koodankulam agitation prevents building nuclear plant for enrichment and power.
All along the history the western countries have used christianity to destabilize local governments and destroying local culture. They are doing the same thing in India.
Ok, now coming to environmental aspect compare nuclear energy with thermal energy. Experts say that 1000MW coal power plant causes 400 deaths annually by air pollution and environmental changes. Nuclear power has risk but one or two in decades. Only 66 direct and 4000 related deaths in 60 years. Traffic accidents kill more than a lakh people annually in India. Will the people stop going by vehicles? Therefore nuclear energy is less risky, more clean.
Global Uranium trade is politically controlled and the established powers allow selling only to those countries who allow their supevision. Now as we have signed the treaty 14 of out 22 nuclear reactors are in their supervision. Only eight are able to produce nuclear weapons. So if they stop uranium mining in india we wont have any other option but to buy it from them thereby allow them to inspect.
It is here they are using christian missionaries to stop mining in Meghalaya and also building new plants in Koodankulam
It is proven that the Koodankulam stir is the show of the Catholic Church. Media reports and intelligence agencies have now confirm that S P Udaykumar, who leads the agitation, stays with the parish priest Father Jaikumar at Idinthakarai village, Fr Jaikumar, Fr Thadyuse, the priest of the church in Koodankulam, Fr S Peter, priest at the popular St Antony’s Church in the coastal village Ovary, The Bishop at Tirunelveli are the people who are leading the stir. The church is therefore fully behind it.
According to reports, transport, cash and biriyani are provided to mobilise protesters and they are motivated to throw stones at the maintenance officials of the plant to force its closure. Remove the church, the agitation will stop.
Compare it with the agitation in the Christian-majority Meghalaya, which has a sixth of India’s uranium reserves. Not a kilogram of uranium has been mined out of Meghalaya since 1990, because of 20 year agitation by Khasi Hills students against mining it. The church in Meghalaya is organizing the students. Violent incidents, blockade, huge rallies, setting fire to government offices and paralysing government marked the agitation. The archbishop of Shillong, Dominic Jala is the spokesperson of the agitators. Take the church out, there will be no stir.
Even the uranium reserve in Jharkhand is at risk. A tribal campaign, with Christian NGOs are thwarting uranium mining in Jharkhand.
The union home ministry froze the bank account of Tuticorin Diocese Association on february 20 2012 for violating Foreign Contribution (regulation) Act. Notices have been issued to East coast Research and Development Trust, Tuticorin Multipurpose Social Service Society, People’s Education for Action and Liberation on charges of diverting contributions from european donors to these pupose.
So it is clearly established that the chruch directly and foreign powers indirectly are behind the agitation to stop India from becoming selfreliant and nuclear power. Remove the church from the agitaion and the agitation will stop immediately.
